What Mark Looked At

The consumer said the carpet had an abrupt change in color in the recreation room in the basement.

The owner of the flooring company was present for the inspection. He said the installers said the arrows of the carpet were going in the same direction. They tried steaming the carpet which worked for a short time, but the carpet went back to looking different. 

Examination revealed the carpet at the side seam on one piece of carpet appeared darker when viewed from one direction and lighter when viewed from the opposite direction.

Photos taken with and without flash revealed no true difference in the color of the carpet. Close examination revealed no texture difference to the carpet. 

Using the paper/pencil test, the one piece of carpet was installed in the opposite direction from the rest of the carpet.
